It only let's you play online via Nintendo's servers. No miiverse support, that's a separate thing No friend list support yet In order to play online you need a Wii U with CFW (for dumping OTP, SEEPROM and some system files) The account on your Wii U must be connected with a NNID Only Splatoon, Smash and Mario Kart 8 are confirmed to work so far.
